About

This site studies England between 1558 and 1603—years when a small island kingdom produced Shakespeare, navigated religious rupture, and experimented with codes, ciphers, and colonial adventure.

Focus areas

  • Literature – close readings of plays, poems, and pamphlets.
  • Politics & Statecraft – how the Crown raised money, ran wars, and gathered intelligence.
  • Belief & Occult – Reformation, astrology, alchemy, angelicism.
  • Learning & Philosophy – rhetoric, logic, early natural science.
  • Authorship Debate – the Oxfordian case reviewed. This is always a secondary to the study of texts.

My aim is the reconstruction of an Elizabethan world of the mind, because England is gone, gone, and the only way one gets to have it at all is in the mind.
